BUILD Designed and built by Sea Chief Yacht Company Taiwan for Tarquin Yacht Company in 1980.
CONSTRUCTION White GRP hull with simulated carvel planking, rubbing strake with stainless steel capping and green bulwarks. White GRP deck, coach roof and wheelhouse with laid teak over decks and coachroof. Interior joinery of mainly oiled solid teak with some teak faced marine ply,Corian work surface with integeral sink in galley area and teak / holly cabin soles. Semi displacement hull with long keel. Twin rudders. Hydraulic internal and external steering positions.
MECHANICS Twin Ford Watermota Sea Lion six cylinder 120hp diesel engines with fresh water heat exchanger cooling and electric starting (cooling systems dismantled and serviced 1996). Fuel pumps both fully serviced and recalibrated by Diesdco1998. Borg Warner hydraulic gearboxes and shaft drive with Aquadrive flexible couplings and PSS seals to two three blade fixed pitch propellers. All stern gear including both shafts, propellers and exhaust water locks renewed 1996. Flex engine mounts. Two sets of dual station twin lever engine controls.
Generator with Petter single cylinder raw water cooled diesel engine. 1997 Vetus 80KGF 12v bow thruster with internal and external controls. 1996 new calorifier for hot water heated by starboard engine or 240v immersion heater. Three outlet 12v Webasto diesel fired hot air heating system. Cruising speed 8/9 knots max design speed 11 knots.
TANKAGE Fuel - 2 x 150 gallon mild steel tanks P & S.
Fresh water - 2 x stainless steel tanks total approximately 150/200 gallons (unmeasured).
ELECTRICS Four 12v heavy duty lead acid batteries charged by engine alternators or battery charger via generator or 240v mains. 12v lighting throughout. 12v powered (inverter) shaver sockets in fwd head and aft cabin. Shore power system with 12v DC and 240v AC distribution panels. Standard navigation lights. Deck flood light. Anchor light. Two electric windscreen wipers. Fore and aft shower sump pumps. Engine room lights. Galley extractor fan. Engine room blower.
SPARS & RIGGING White painted wood lowering mast with boat lifting boom, stainless steel fittings, 1x19 stainless steel standing rigging and Terylene running rigging. Steadying sail.
NAVIGATION Two Sestrel binnacle type compasses. Autohelm Tridata echo sounder, log and EQUIPMENT wind speed and direction. AIS Transponder.Autohelm ST7000 autopilot. Icom GMDSS VHF. Furuno GP80 GPS. Garmin GPS MAP 200 plotter. Furuno 1831 4kw, 36mile range daylight display radar. Large brass clock and barometer. Repeaters for basic instruments on fly bridge. LCD TV/DVD
ACCOMMODATION
Acommodation for six in three cabins. Rugs and curtains. V berth cabin forward with infill and fitted sheets, large hanging locker, good stowage and en suite head with 1996 manually operated sea type WC wash basin, hot and cold pressurised water and shower attachment over teak grating. Wheelhouse/saloon with L shaped dinette to port (table lowers to form double berth), helmsman's position with stainless steel framed seat and galley to starboard with Zanussi four burner gas cooker with oven and grill, Full flame failure protection, hot and cold pressurised water, 12/240 v fridge, and excellent stowage. Aft cabin with large double berth excellent stowage including wardrobe, en suite head with wash basin, hot and cold pressurised water and 1996 manually operated sea type WC. Also en suite bathroom with hip bath and shower.
DECK EQUIPMENT Flying bridge cover. Two boathooks. Large selection of mooring warps, mostly little used. Fenders. Varnished teak bulwark rail and hand rail with stainless steel stanchions and gates port, starboard and aft. Teak hand rails on forward coachroof. Stainless steel hand rails round bridge deck, Varnished steps to bridge and ladder to swim platform. Varnished teak swim platform. Teak hatches fore and aft. Six bronze fairleads with integral cleats. Varnished teak sampson post and anchor/winch platform with stainless steel anchor bracket and roller. 1997 Horizon 1500 electric anchor winch with chain gypsy and warping drum. 45lb bower anchor with chain. CQR kedge anchor. Two stainless steel vents in forward coachroof. Snap davits. Set of 1998 cushions custom made for fly bridge seating. Avon Rover R 280 RIB with oars. Mercury outboard with separate tank. Snap Davits.
SAFETY 1 x horseshoe lifebuoy. Flares. Fire blanket. Electric EQUIPMENT fog horn. One manual and two electric bilge pumps. 2004 auto/manually activated Sea-Fire FD350M engine room fire extinguisher system. Life jackets.
The Trader 39 is a superb cruiser with sumptuous accommodation beautifully fitted out in teak. The two double cabins each have their own heads and the aft cabin even has a separate bathroom! They have excellent sea keeping abilities and "Ilmatar II" with her bow thruster and twin engines is a delight to handle in tight corners.
